Karnıyarık is a traditional Istanbul dish, a delightful mix of vegetables and meat cooked in a bowl of dough.

Ingredients
- 1 kg of beef
- 400 g of dough
- 200 g of mixed vegetables (potatoes, pumpkin, onion)
- 100 g of beans
- 2 onions
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 100 ml of olive oil
- 300 ml of beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley
- Water for kneading dough
Method
- Cut the meat into small pieces and season with salt, pepper, and a bit of olive oil.
- Wash and chop the vegetables, then sauté the garlic and onions in a bit of olive oil.
- Add the vegetables and meat slices, season with salt, pepper, and beef broth.
- While the sauce is cooking, prepare the dough following the package instructions, then make a well in the center and add the egg and chopped parsley.
- Pour the dough into the pot with the sauce, cover with a lid and cook over medium heat for 20-30 minutes.
- Serve hot, garnished with tomato slices and fresh parsley.
The story
Karnıyarık originates from Istanbul and is said to have been originally prepared for Queen Nurbanu, the wife of Sultan Murat III, as a dish of peace and prosperity.
