Ingredients

  • 250 g of kadayif filo
  • 300 g of sugar
  • 150 ml of water
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
  • 100 g of toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of toasted almonds (optional)
  • 1 packet of food coloring (optional)

Method

  1. Prepare the sugar syrup: mix the sugar with water in a pan and bring to a boil. Add lemon juice and powdered sugar, then let it cool.
  2. Dip the kadayif filo in the sugar syrup for 10-15 seconds, then lay it out on a baking paper sheet.
  3. Repeat the process until all the filo is used.
  4. Stack the kadayif leaves on a baking dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds and toasted almonds.
  5. Heat the sugar syrup in a pan and pour it over all the kadayif leaves. Let it cool and set.
  6. Cut the dessert into squares and serve cold.

The story

Kadayif is a traditional Levantine dessert with roots tracing back to the Ottoman era. Loved for its light texture and sweet taste.
