Ingredients

  • 1 kg of cold shrimp
  • 200 g of potatoes
  • 200 g of tomatoes
  • 100 g of onion
  • 50 g of butter
  • 50 g of sugar
  • 30 g of thyme
  • 200 ml of cream
  • 100 ml of white wine
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Clean the shrimp and cut them into pieces. Boil for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into cubes and the tomatoes into thin slices.
  3. In a pan, melt the butter and add the chopped onions. Cook until golden.
  4. Add the potatoes and tomatoes, season with salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix the cream, white wine, and sugar. Add the boiled shrimp.
  6. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and season with salt and pepper. Cook on low heat for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh thyme.

The story

Janssons Frestelse, or 'Jan's Deception,' is a traditional Luleå dish dating back to the 19th century, when fisherman Jan Lindström began preparing this dish for his family.
