Ingredients

  • 200g of ground meat (pork or beef)
  • 100g of vegetables (potatoes, onions, zucchini, bell peppers)
  • 1 egg
  • 100g of onions
  • 50g of ginger
  • 50g of chili
  • 100g of flour
  • 50g of butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Boil the vegetables, then drain and squeeze out the water.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground meat with the boiled vegetables, egg, onions, ginger, and chili. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. In another bowl, mix the flour with a little water to make a damp flour mixture.
  4. Shape the meat into balls with the damp flour mixture and form the patties.
  5. Fry the patties in hot oil until they become golden brown.
  6. Serve hot with chili sauce or soy sauce.

The story

Jamaican patties originated in Jamaica and became a popular dish during celebrations and festivals. They gained particular popularity in the 1960s and 1970s.
