Ingredients

  • 400 g of dried peppers
  • 1 liter of fish broth
  • 3 onions
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of Kario pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder

Method

  1. Soak the dried peppers in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Dice the ingredients into small pieces.
  3. In a large pot, add the fish broth and soaked peppers. Bring to a boil.
  4. Add the diced ingredients and cook for 30 minutes.
  5. Blend and add the spices. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Turn off the heat and serve hot.

The story

Originally prepared by the fishermen of the Hadejia Lake in Northwestern Nigeria, Ila Jumbo was a fish-based soup. Today, it has become popular nationwide and fits well into any meal.
