Ingredients

  • 4 fish fillets (such as salmon or tuna)
  • 2 red onions, sliced thinly
  • 100 g of cili padi, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 2 basil sprigs
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • 100 ml of sesame oil

Method

  1. Prepare the fish fillets, clean and dry. Place them on a plate.
  2. In a bowl, mix the coconut oil, ground pepper, salt, soy sauce, lemon juice, basil and bay leaves. Add the sliced red bell peppers.
  3. Coat the fish fillets with the seasoning mixture, ensuring they are well covered.
  4. Take a piece of aluminum foil, place the fish fillets on it and cover with the sliced red onions and bay leaves.
  5. Wrap the foil tightly, leaving some space for ventilation. Grill for 15-20 minutes on medium heat.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped cili padi and chili for an extra flavor boost.

The story

Ikan Bakar Cili Padi originates from the Perak region in Malaysia. It was developed as a way to utilize locally available fish and the common cili padi, a fragrant plant in Malaysia.
