Grilled Chicken Skewers
Yakitori is a traditional Japanese dish that combines the taste of grilled meat with the crispy skin of chicken.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs of chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons of sake
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of shoyu sauce
- 2 tablespoons of mirin
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of pepper
- 100 grams of vegetable pieces (onion, carrot, bell pepper)
- 100 grams of vegetable pieces (sweet potato, pumpkin)
Method
- In a pan, mix the sake, soy sauce, shoyu sauce, mirin, sugar, and pepper.
- Add the chicken pieces and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers of wood.
- Grill the skewers of chicken for 5-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the skin becomes crispy.
- Add the vegetable pieces and grill for another 5-7 minutes until they are al dente.
- Serve hot with soy sauce and pepper to taste.
The story
Yakitori originated from casual lunches initially practiced by railway workers in Japan. Over time, they became a popular dish in izakayas, or casual drinking establishments, where customers can order various dishes and drink beer.
