Ingredients

  • 200g of Glarner cheese
  • 100g of raw ham
  • 10 lettuce leaves
  • 100g of grated cheese
  • 2 onions
  • 100g of toasted bread
  • 20g of butter
  • 10g of salt
  • 5g of pepper

Method

  1. Slice the Glarner cheese thinly.
  2. Dice the onions.
  3. In a pan, sauté the onions in a bit of butter.
  4. Add the slices of cheese and the grated cheese, mixing well.
  5. Arrange the lettuce leaves in a baking dish.
  6. Cover with the cheese mixture.
  7. Finally, add the raw ham cubes on top of the cheese.
  8. Bake at 180°C for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  9. Serve hot, with toasted bread on the side.

The story

The Glarner Zibee has a history dating back to when farmers used tobacco to preserve cheese. Today, it is a traditional dish of the region.
