Ingredients
- 200 g of chickpeas
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon of red pepper
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- 1 teaspoon of coriander
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- Water for cooking
- Tomatoes in slices
- Pita bread
Method
- Rinse the chickpeas and cook them in boiling water for 30-40 minutes until soft.
- In a pan, sauté the garlic and onion with olive oil.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the chickpeas, red pepper, cumin, thyme, coriander, and salt.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve with tomato slices and pita bread.
- Place a slice of pita with the ful medames and tomato slices on top.
The story
Ful Medames is a traditional dish with ancient roots across Saudi Arabia, but it is particularly beloved in Mecca, where it is often served as breakfast.
