Ingredients

  • 250g of dark chocolate
  • 50g of butter
  • 50g of sugar
  • 100g of flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon of rum
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a pan and add the dark chocolate, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted.
  2. Add the sugar, flour, egg, vanilla, and rum, mixing well to form a homogeneous dough.
  3. Shape small balls with the dough and fry in hot oil until they become golden and crispy.
  4. Drain with a fish spatula and serve hot.
  5. Optional: dust with a bit of sugar powder or add a drop of rum as a garnish.

The story

Originating in Santiago de Compostela, the choco frito was prepared by the Abbey of San Martín Pinario as a special treat for papal visits.
