Ingredients

  • 500 g of black beans
  • 500 g of pork belly
  • 400 g of pork chuck
  • 200 g of pancetta
  • 100 g of raw bacon
  • 200 g of dried shrimp
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 200 ml of palm oil
  • 1 liter of meat broth
  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder
  • salt to taste

Method

  1. In a large pot, cook the black beans with the meat broth for about 1 hour or until tender.
  2. Meanwhile, cut the pork belly, pork chuck, pancetta, and raw bacon into pieces.
  3. In a pan, sauté the palm oil with the onions and garlic.
  4. Add the meat pieces and cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Place the bean pot in the pan with the meat and cook for 30 minutes.
  6. Add the dried shrimp and cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and chili powder, mix well, and serve hot.

The story

Feijoada has its roots in the Afro-Brazilian slave population, where agricultural workers prepared this dish using inexpensive ingredients. Over time, it became a national dish and a symbol of Brazilian culture.
