Ingredients

  • 500g of white beans
  • 200g of bacon
  • 1 liter of meat broth
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 onions
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 clove of cinnamon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 200g of pork lard

Method

  1. In a large pot, heat the meat broth and pork lard.
  2. Add the white beans and let cook for 15 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic, onions, bell peppers, cinnamon, and bay leaf.
  4. Cook over medium heat for 20 minutes, adding broth as needed.
  5. Finally, add salt and black pepper, stir, and let cook for another 10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with bread or toasted bread.

The story

Fabada is a traditional dish from Asturias, dating back to the days of Spanish navigation, when sailors would use leftovers to create this nutritious stew.
