Cozonac
A traditional Romanian sweet bread, rich in eggs and sugar, served during Christmas and Easter celebrations.

Ingredients
- 250 g of sourdough starter
- 500 g of wheat flour
- 4 eggs
- 200 g of sugar
- 100 g of butter
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 100 g of almonds
- 100 g of cocoa powder
Method
- Prepare the dough by mixing the sourdough starter, flour, and water to achieve a soft consistency.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, butter, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Increase the dough consistency with the flour and mix until you get a homogeneous mixture.
- Add the egg and sugar mixture to the dough and mix well.
- Finally, add the chopped almonds and cocoa powder.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 12 hours.
- Shape the Cozonac into a croissant or cross shape and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45-50 minutes.

Cozonac is a traditional Romanian sweet bread with roots tracing back to medieval times, served as a meal for pilgrims during the Christ Walk celebrations.
