Ingredients

  • 200 g of beef
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 50 g of red onion
  • 100 g of butter
  • 100 g of oil
  • 100 g of flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon of chili
  • 1/2 tablespoon of bay leaf
  • 1/2 tablespoon of parsley
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 200 g of flour
  • 100 ml of cold water

Method

  1. Dice the beef into small pieces and place it in a bowl.
  2. In a pan, sauté the onions, garlic, and red onion in butter and oil.
  3. Add the beef, chili, parsley, bay leaf, salt, and pepper, and cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour with cold water to form the dough.
  5. Prepare the meat filling and spread it on half of the dough circles.
  6. Cover with the other half of the dough circles and seal by pinching the edges.
  7. Fry the empanadas in hot oil until golden brown.
  8. Serve them hot with red or green sauce, if desired.

The story

Colombian meat empanadas were introduced by Spanish colonizers and have evolved over time, becoming a popular dish among economically disadvantaged families.
