Colombian Meat Empanadas
This traditional Colombian dish is a savory delight, featuring seasoned beef and a variety of spices encased in a crispy pastry crust.

Ingredients
- 200 g of beef
- 2 onions
- 2 garlic cloves
- 50 g of red onion
- 100 g of butter
- 100 g of oil
- 100 g of flour
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tablespoon of chili
- 1/2 tablespoon of bay leaf
- 1/2 tablespoon of parsley
- salt and pepper to taste
- 200 g of flour
- 100 ml of cold water
Method
- Dice the beef into small pieces and place it in a bowl.
- In a pan, sauté the onions, garlic, and red onion in butter and oil.
- Add the beef, chili, parsley, bay leaf, salt, and pepper, and cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix the flour with cold water to form the dough.
- Prepare the meat filling and spread it on half of the dough circles.
- Cover with the other half of the dough circles and seal by pinching the edges.
- Fry the empanadas in hot oil until golden brown.
- Serve them hot with red or green sauce, if desired.
The story
Colombian meat empanadas were introduced by Spanish colonizers and have evolved over time, becoming a popular dish among economically disadvantaged families.
