Chicken-Fried Steak
A classic Texas dish, crispy and delicious!

Ingredients
- 4 beef or veal steaks
- 1 cup of bread crumbs
- 1 cup of cracker meal
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1/4 cup of pepper
- 2 cups of oil for frying
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 1/2 cup of broth
Method
- Prepare the beef or veal steaks by slicing them into thick slices and seasoning them.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, mix the bread crumbs, cracker meal, egg, and sugar.
- Dredge the steaks in the flour mixture, then in the bread and egg mixture.
- Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
- In a pan, mix the soy sauce and broth and pour over the fried steaks.
- Serve hot.
The story
Chicken-fried steak originated in Texas in the 1930s when people sought ways to stretch their meals. The recipe became popular and is now a cult classic in Texas.
