Ingredients
- 200g of red bell peppers, sliced
- 100g of green bell peppers, sliced
- 100g of red onions, diced
- 50g of white onions, diced
- 100g of leeks, diced
- 50g of yellow bell peppers, sliced
- 100g of dried tomatoes, chopped
- 50g of cucumbers, diced
- 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of salt
Method
- Slice the red and green bell peppers, and dice the red onions, white onions, and leeks.
- In a pan, sauté the onion mix with a bit of olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, and leeks, sauté for another 5 minutes.
- Chop the dried tomatoes and add them to the pan, stir well.
- Add the white wine vinegar, sugar, black pepper, and salt, stir and let cook for 10 minutes.
- Finally, add the diced cucumbers and stir for 2 minutes.
- Let it cool before serving as a side dish.

Chakalaka originated in South Africa and reached Johannesburg through African immigration, becoming a beloved dish throughout the city.
