Castagnaccio is a traditional Tuscan sweet made from chestnuts, rich in history, enjoyed both warm and cold.

Ingredients
- 500 grams of cooked and mashed chestnuts
- 250 grams of wheat flour
- 2 eggs
- 100 grams of sugar
- 100 grams of butter
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of caramel sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Method
- Peel and cook the chestnuts, then let them cool and mash until you get a smooth paste.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, eggs, sugar, butter, cinnamon, caramel sugar, and salt.
- Add the chestnut paste and mix well.
- Pour the mixture into a baking dish and bake in the oven at 180°C for 45-50 minutes.
- Let it cool and serve warm or cold, decorated with whipped cream or dried fruit.
The story
Castagnaccio has roots dating back to the Middle Ages, when chestnuts were a crucial food source, especially during famines.
