Ingredients

  • 1 kg of beef or pork, sliced
  • 200 g of rice vermicelli
  • 400 ml of chicken or beef broth
  • 2 large red onions, sliced
  • 2 green chili peppers, sliced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tamarind sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Slice the beef or pork thinly and set aside.
  2. In a pot, cook the chicken or beef broth with the large red onions and green onions over medium heat.
  3. Add the green chili peppers, chili powder, soy sauce, tamarind sauce, tomato sauce, and coconut water. Stir well.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, place the rice vermicelli and cover with hot water for 10 minutes.
  6. In a pan, fry the sliced beef or pork in a bowl with cooking oil.
  7. Add the beef or pork to the pot with the broth and cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Spoon the broth into a plate and place the rice vermicelli on top.
  9. Serve with sliced green onions on the side.

Bún Bò Huế is a traditional dish from the city of Huế, which took inspiration from Chinese cuisine and developed during the Nguyen dynasty when Huế became the capital of Vietnam.
