Braamrijstebrij with Apple Marmalade

A traditional Flevoland dish, rich in flavor and tradition, combining rice with apple marmalade.

Ingredients
- 200g of rice
- 200g of braam (local fruit)
- 200g of sugar
- 200ml of water
- 100ml of white wine
- 200ml of chicken broth
- 100ml of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar
- 1/2 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon of grated lemon peel
- Salt to taste
Method
- Clean and cut the braam into small pieces.
- In a pan, heat the olive oil and fry the braam for about 5 minutes.
- Add the sugar, white wine, and chicken broth, bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium.
- In a separate pot, mix the rice with warm chicken broth and cook for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is al dente.
- Add the cooked rice and remaining braam broth to the pan with the braam, stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, add the cinnamon, powdered sugar, and grated lemon, stir well and let it cool.
- Serve hot, topped with apple marmalade.
The story
Braamrijstebrij, or 'braam rice', is a local specialty from Flevoland that has evolved from the traditional rice and fruit recipe, a practice that has been maintained over time.
