Ingredients

  • 200g of phyllo dough
  • 200g of almonds
  • 400g of sugar
  • 200ml of water
  • 100ml of oil
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 lemon leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla powder

Method

  1. Prepare the phyllo by layering the sheets and placing a tablespoon of almonds on each one.
  2. Roll the phyllo around the almonds to form a cylinder.
  3. Fry the cylinders in hot oil until golden brown.
  4. Make the sugar syrup by mixing sugar, water, cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon juice.
  5. Dip the Baklawa cylinders in the sugar syrup until fully soaked.
  6. Let it cool and decorate with lemon leaves.

The story

Baklawa has a long history dating back to Roman times, but it has become particularly popular in the Middle East and especially in Saudi Arabia, where it is prepared during religious festivals.
