Ingredients

  • 200g of phyllo dough
  • 400g of sesame seeds
  • 1 liter of sugar
  • 500ml of water
  • 1 lemon
  • 200g of butter
  • 100g of ground cinnamon
  • 100g of chopped almonds
  • 100g of chopped pistachios

Method

  1. Make the sugar syrup: mix the sugar, water, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a pot.
  2. Prepare the phyllo dough: spread the sheets of phyllo dough one on top of the other and cover with a paper towel to prevent drying out.
  3. Dip the phyllo dough: dip the sheets of phyllo dough in the sugar syrup for a few seconds, making sure they are moist but not overly so.
  4. Assemble the baklava: arrange the sheets of phyllo dough in a baking dish, sprinkle a generous amount of sesame seeds, almonds, and pistachios on each layer.
  5. Bake the baklava: bake at 180°C for 45-50 minutes or until the baklava is golden and crispy.
  6. Serve: let the baklava cool before cutting into pieces and drizzling with the sugar syrup.
