Baklava

Ingredients
- 200g of phyllo pastry sheets
- 150g of sugar
- 100g of water
- 100g of chopped almonds
- 100g of powdered sugar
- 100g of butter
- 10 cinnamon leaves
- 1 lemon
- 200g of honey
Method
- Prepare the phyllo pastry by cutting the sheets into smaller pieces.
- In a saucepan, mix the butter with sugar and water, bring to a boil and let it cool.
- In a baking dish, layer the phyllo sheets, sprinkle with almonds, dust with powdered sugar, and repeat until all ingredients are used up.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and lemon juice, then cover with the last phyllo sheets.
- Baste with the honey syrup and bake in the oven at 180°C for 30-40 minutes.
- Let it cool before serving.
The story
Baklava has a long history dating back to Roman times, but it became particularly popular in Israel during the Ottoman period.
