Ingredients

  • 500 g of salted cod, dusted
  • 200 g of prato cheese
  • 200 g of stracchino cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 ml of milk
  • 100 g of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 150 g of potatoes
  • 100 g of zucchini
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove

Method

  1. Rinse the cod, dry it, and cut it into small pieces.
  2. In a pan, heat the oil, add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the cubed potatoes and zucchini, cook over medium heat for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix the milk, eggs, flour, and cheeses, add salt and pepper.
  5. Add the cod to the sauce and mix well.
  6. Check the consistency, if needed, add a bit of milk.
  7. Pour the preparation into a baking dish, add the cheese in layers and bake at 180°C for 20-25 minutes.
  8. Serve hot, accompanied by a good bread.

The story

Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá originated during the Great Famine of 1846, when the Portuguese population sought to use every piece of salted cod to survive, creating a rich and nutritious dish.
