Ingredients

  • 500g of beef, cut into pieces
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 red onions, finely chopped
  • 2 inches of ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper
  • 20 skewers for the kebabs
  • Arugula and bell peppers for serving

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, sugar, onions, ginger, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Add the beef to the mixture and stir well to ensure the meat is well coated with flavor.
  3. Thread the seasoned meat onto 20 skewers.
  4. Prepare a barbecue and cook the kebabs for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the meat is well done.
  5. Serve the Amsterdam sate with arugula and bell peppers on the side.

The story

Saté, originally from Indonesia, was brought to Amsterdam by tourists and then adapted with local ingredients to suit the tastes of the city's residents.
