Amsterdam Nasi Goreng

A stir-fried rice dish with vegetables, meat, and spices, typical of Indonesian cuisine with an Amsterdam twist.

Ingredients
- 200g of basmati rice
- 2 onions
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 yellow bell pepper
- 100g of bell peppers
- 100g of chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
Method
- Cook the basmati rice in a saucepan with a little water and salt until it's al dente. Let it cool.
- Slice the onions, bell peppers, and bell peppers into cubes.
- In a non-stick pan, heat the coconut oil over medium heat and add the onions, bell peppers, and bell peppers. Cook until the vegetables are soft.
- Add the chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the meat is almost cooked.
- Add the rice, soy sauce, tomato sauce, rice vinegar, salt, and pepper, and stir well.
- Continue cooking over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, until the rice is fully cooked and everything is well combined.
- Serve hot with extra soy sauce if desired.
The story
Nasi goreng was introduced to the Netherlands by Indonesian immigrants and has been influenced by local culinary traditions, creating a unique Amsterdam version.
