Acı İskender
A traditional Bursa dish, Acı İskender is a culinary delight that combines slowly cooked beef with a spicy sauce.

Ingredients
- 500 g of beef
- 200 ml of tomato sauce
- 2 onions
- 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 slices of bread
- 100 g of shredded cheese
- 1 mint leaf
- 1 basil leaf
Method
- Dice the onions and sauté them in a pan with olive oil.
- Add the sliced beef and season with salt and black pepper.
- Cook on low heat for about 1 hour, adding the tomato sauce and lemon juice.
- Prepare the spicy sauce by mixing sugar, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.
- Toast the bread in a pan with a little olive oil.
- Place the bread on top of the beef in a dish, pour the spicy sauce over it, and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Bake in the oven at 200°C for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is golden.
- Serve with mint and basil leaves.
The story
Acı İskender originated in Bursa, a historic city in Turkey, where culinary traditions are deeply rooted. It was first created in 1970 by a local chef who wanted to find an original way to serve meat.
