Ingredients
- 2 beef steaks (about 200 g each)
- 1 piece of pan bread (about 200 g)
- 100 g of mozzarella cheese
- 100 g of cooked ham
- 100 g of fennel
- 100 g of tomato
- 2 tablespoons of garlic sauce
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chimichurri sauce (optional)
Method
- Prepare the beef steaks, slicing them thinly.
- Slice the fennel thinly and the tomato into quarters.
- In a greased pan, cook the beef steaks for a few minutes.
- Assemble the sandwich with the beef, cooked ham, fennel, and tomato.
- Sprinkle the garlic sauce and add the mozzarella cheese.
- Season with salt and pepper, and add chimichurri if desired.
- Make the sandwich and serve hot.
The story
The Urquiza Chivito originated in the Uruguayan city of Tacuarembó but became popular in Argentina. It is said to have been born in the 1950s in a small restaurant, quickly becoming a culinary symbol.
