Sylteflæsk

A traditional Norwegian dish, Sylteflæsk is a delicious slow-cooked pork with potatoes and vegetables.

Ingredients
- 500g of pork, cut into pieces
- 4 potatoes, cubed
- 2 carrots, cut into pieces
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- 200ml of meat broth
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- 2 sage leaves
- 1 rosemary leaf
- Olive oil for frying
Method
- Fry the vegetables and onion in a pan with olive oil, then add the garlic and fry until the vegetables are soft.
- Add the pork and fry until the meat is golden brown.
- Add the potatoes, sage, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in the meat broth and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a medium flame and let it simmer for about 1 hour.
- Check the consistency of the sauce and add more broth if needed.
- Simmer on low heat for another hour or until the meat is tender and the sauce is thick.
The story
Sylteflæsk is a traditional dish from the Vestfold region in Norway, with its origins in the 18th century when pork was a luxury meat and was slowly cooked to absorb all the flavors.
