Ingredients

  • 500g of pork, cut into pieces
  • 4 potatoes, cubed
  • 2 carrots, cut into pieces
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 200ml of meat broth
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 2 sage leaves
  • 1 rosemary leaf
  • Olive oil for frying

Method

  1. Fry the vegetables and onion in a pan with olive oil, then add the garlic and fry until the vegetables are soft.
  2. Add the pork and fry until the meat is golden brown.
  3. Add the potatoes, sage, rosemary, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour in the meat broth and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a medium flame and let it simmer for about 1 hour.
  5. Check the consistency of the sauce and add more broth if needed.
  6. Simmer on low heat for another hour or until the meat is tender and the sauce is thick.

The story

Sylteflæsk is a traditional dish from the Vestfold region in Norway, with its origins in the 18th century when pork was a luxury meat and was slowly cooked to absorb all the flavors.
