Ingredients

  • 400 g of shrimp
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 100 g of parsley
  • 100 g of red bell peppers
  • 100 g of green bell peppers
  • 300 g of fried bread
  • 50 ml of olive oil
  • Tartar sauce
  • Tomato salad
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg

Method

  1. Clean and slice the shrimp into thick pieces, then marinate them with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a pan, sauté the garlic and onion in olive oil, then add the sliced bell peppers and cook until they are soft.
  3. In a bowl, mix the chopped parsley with the sautéed onion and peppers, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg in cold water, then dip the shrimp slices in this mixture.
  5. Fry the shrimp slices in hot oil until they are crispy.
  6. Cut the fried bread in half and fill with the crispy shrimp slices.
  7. Top with the parsley and peppers mixture, then add tartar sauce and tomato salad.
  8. Serve garnished with additional parsley and a drizzle of olive oil.

The story

Shrimp po' boys originated in Louisiana, particularly in New Orleans, as a lighter version of the classic shrimp po' boys. They became popular in the 1950s and 1960s when bars and restaurants started offering this local specialty.
