Ingredients
- 350 g rye flour
- 200 g wheat flour
- 100 g sesame seeds
- 50 g flax seeds
- 100 g butter
- 100 g sugar
- 100 g honey
- 10 g dry yeast
- 100 g warm water
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3 eggs
- 500 ml milk
Method
- Combine rye flour, wheat flour, sesame seeds, flax seeds, salt, and dry yeast in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, mix butter, sugar, honey, warm water, and eggs.
- Add the liquid mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a homogeneous dough is formed.
- Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C and bake the dough for about 1 hour, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow the rugbrød to cool completely before slicing and serving.
The story
Rye bread has a history dating back to the 17th century, initially used as a backup bread for poor families. Today, it has become a national culinary symbol, beloved by all.
