Irish Soda Bread

A sweet and crunchy Irish bread made with baking soda and wheat flour.

Ingredients
- 500 g of wheat flour
- 250 ml of milk
- 100 g of butter
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of wine vinegar
Method
- Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt, and set aside.
- In another bowl, mix the milk, butter, egg, sugar, honey, and wine vinegar.
- Combine the milk and butter mixture with the flour mixture until you get a homogeneous dough.
- Form a ball with the dough and shape it into a rectangle, then make a diagonal cut.
- Place the bread in a preheated oven at 200°C for 45-50 minutes.
- Let the bread cool before slicing.
The story
Irish soda bread has its origins in poverty, where baking soda was the only leavening agent available. Today, it is a true culinary symbol of Irish culture.
