Ila (Pepper Soup)

A classic Nigerian dish, Ila is a spicy and aromatic soup that satisfies the palate with its flavors.

Ingredients
- 500 g of dried peppers
- 200 g of onion
- 100 g of green peppers
- 500 ml of palm oil
- 200 g of red peppers
- 100 g of red onion
- 200 ml of chicken broth
- 100 g of sweet potatoes
- 50 g of chili
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 lemon
Method
- Soak the dried peppers in hot water for 30 minutes, then drain and cut into pieces.
- In a large pot, heat the palm oil over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic for 5 minutes.
- Add the green and red peppers and the red onion, sauté for another 5 minutes.
- Add the soaked peppers, chili, chicken broth, and sweet potatoes, bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes.
- Blend the soaked peppers and add to the broth, stir well.
- Cook until the soup is well blended and the flavors are well integrated, adjust seasoning as needed.
- Squeeze the lemon and add the juice to the soup, stir well.
- Serve the Ila hot with yams or sweet potatoes.
