Goulash
A hearty and substantial dish, Goulash is a classic of Hungarian cuisine, with a fragrant taste of spices and beef.

Ingredients
- 500 g of beef
- 2 onions
- 2 carrots
- 2 zucchinis
- 1 liter of beef broth
- 100 ml of red wine
- 2 tablespoons of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 200 g of beans
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 chicken bouillon cubes
Method
- Cut the beef into small pieces and brown it in a casserole with olive oil.
- Add the onions, carrots, and zucchinis cut into cubes, and sauté for about 10 minutes.
- Add the beef broth, red wine, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt, and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add the beans, bay leaves, and chicken bouillon cubes, and cook for another 20 minutes.
- Serving: serve hot with potatoes or Tuscan bread.
The story
Originating in the 17th century, Goulash was a warm soup made from leftover meat by Hungarian peasants. It became popular in the 19th century when meat-based meals were a sign of wealth.
