Ingredients

  • 500 g of beef
  • 2 onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 zucchinis
  • 1 liter of beef broth
  • 100 ml of red wine
  • 2 tablespoons of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 200 g of beans
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes

Method

  1. Cut the beef into small pieces and brown it in a casserole with olive oil.
  2. Add the onions, carrots, and zucchinis cut into cubes, and sauté for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the beef broth, red wine, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and salt, and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Add the beans, bay leaves, and chicken bouillon cubes, and cook for another 20 minutes.
  5. Serving: serve hot with potatoes or Tuscan bread.

The story

Originating in the 17th century, Goulash was a warm soup made from leftover meat by Hungarian peasants. It became popular in the 19th century when meat-based meals were a sign of wealth.
