Ingredients

  • 200g of puff pastry
  • 400g of herring, cut into pieces
  • 200ml of milk cream
  • 100g of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
  • 1 egg, for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Dried fruit for decoration

Method

  1. Prepare the filling by mixing the herring, milk cream, sugar, lemon juice, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cut the puff pastry into circular shapes with a round cutter.
  3. Pack the filling into semicircular shapes and carefully seal them.
  4. Dip the pastry shapes into beaten egg to coat them.
  5. Fry them in hot oil until golden and crispy.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve with dried fruit as a garnish.

The story

Fiskbullar originated on Gotland and became popular as a Christmas dessert. They are made with fresh herring and cream, crispy and delicious.
