Ingredients

  • 1 kg of hard wheat flour
  • 700 ml of cold water
  • 10 g of brewer's yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 100 g of mozzarella cheese
  • 500 g of marinated tomatoes
  • 100 g of prosciutto
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Mix the flour, yeast, salt, and olive oil in a large bowl. Add the cold water and mix until you get a homogeneous dough.
  2. Let the dough rise for at least 1 hour at room temperature.
  3. Peel and dice the onion and prosciutto into small pieces.
  4. On a baking sheet, drizzle some oil and place the dough in a circular shape.
  5. Cover the dough with mozzarella, marinated tomatoes, onion, and prosciutto.
  6. Make a diagonal cut along the pizza to create the flexible crust.
  7. Preheat the oven to 220°C and bake the pizza for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the mozzarella is melted.

Detroit Style Pizza originated in the 1950s in Detroit when a pizza maker decided to create a thin, flexible crust to cater to customers who preferred a lighter pizza.
