Cuban Sandwiches

Cuban sandwiches, or tortas cubanesas, are a Cuban culinary classic, crispy and flavorful, made with ground beef, cheese, and seasonings.

Ingredients
- 1 kg of ground beef
- 100 g of cheddar cheese, sliced
- 24 slices of whole grain bread
- 2 onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Method
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef, soy sauce, barbecue sauce, salt, and pepper until you get a homogeneous mixture.
- In a non-stick pan, fry the bread slices with a little oil until they are golden.
- Place the mixed meat on one half of each bread slice.
- Add a slice of cheese on top of the meat.
- Close with the other half of the bread and place the sandwiches in a baking dish.
- Fry the sandwiches in a non-stick pan with a little oil until they are golden and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve the hot and crispy sandwiches.
The story
Cuban sandwiches, or tortas cubanesas, originated in Santiago de Cuba and are said to have been created during the Cuban Revolution, when soldiers needed a quick and nutritious meal.
