Ingredients

  • 200g of flour
  • 100g of pastry fat
  • 1 egg
  • 150g of ground beef
  • 100g of chopped onion
  • 100g of chopped tomato
  • 50g of ground ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 10 bay leaves
  • 100g of caciocavallo cheese
  • oil for frying

Method

  1. Mix the flour with the pastry fat and egg until you get a homogeneous dough.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with the chopped onion, chopped tomato, ginger, salt, pepper, and bay leaves.
  3. Form dough balls and place the filling in the center, then seal the empanadas with a spoon.
  4. Fry the empanadas in plenty of hot oil until they become golden brown.
  5. Sprinkle with caciocavallo cheese and serve hot.

The story

Cuban Empanadas arrived in Cuba with the Spanish in the 17th century but have developed their own unique culinary identity.
