Budapest Chimney Cake

A traditional sweet from Budapest, with a crispy exterior and soft interior, served cold or warm.

Ingredients
- 500 g of flour
- 3 eggs
- 200 ml of milk
- 100 g of sugar
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 100 g of butter
- 100 g of powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 100 g of fruit syrup
- 100 g of crushed almonds
- 100 g of chocolate
Method
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and sugar.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs with milk and vanilla, then add the mixed flour.
- Add the melted butter and mix well.
- Form a ball of dough and roll it on a baking paper, forming a cylinder.
- Cook the cylinder on a hot wooden skewer for about 10 minutes, turning frequently.
- In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, water, and fruit syrup, then add the crushed almonds and chocolate.
- After cooking, dip the chimney cake in the syrup, let it dry for a few minutes before serving.
The story
The Budapest chimney cake originated in the 17th century and has since become a symbol of Budapest's culinary culture, widely enjoyed in the city center.
