A traditional sweet from Newfoundland, Bakeapples, crisp and sweet like an autumn sun.

Ingredients
- 200 g of Bakeapples
- 50 g of sugar
- 50 g of butter
- 1 tablespoon of caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon of water
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg powder
- 100 g of icing sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of rum
- 1 tablespoon of water
Method
- Clean the Bakeapples thoroughly and slice them thinly.
- In a pan, mix the butter, sugar, water, and lemon juice.
- Add the Bakeapple slices and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until they are soft.
- In another pan, mix the icing sugar, egg, rum, and water.
- Add the Bakeapple slices and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until the compote is thick and crunchy.
- Arrange the Bakeapple slices on a plate and sprinkle with icing sugar and cinnamon powder.
- Let it cool and serve as a dessert.
