Apple Pastel
A classic Chilean dessert made with apples and a crispy crust.

Ingredients
- 4 apples
- 250 g flour
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 tablespoon icing sugar
Method
- Prepare the apples by slicing them thinly and dusting them with a bit of sugar.
- Mix the flour, butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and cold water to form a dough.
- Take a pan and line the bottom with the dough, then add the apple slices.
- Make a second crust with the remaining dough and cover the apples.
- Bake the pastel in the oven at 356°F (180°C) for 30-35 minutes, until the crust is golden and the apples are cooked.
- Remove from the oven, let it cool, and decorate with icing sugar.
The story
The pastel de manzana originates from Santiago, where it has been a popular Christmas and New Year's Eve dessert for years.
