Anzac Biscuits
These traditional Australian biscuits are crunchy and sweet, perfect for a warm tea.

Ingredients
- 250 g of oatmeal
- 250 g of golden syrup
- 100 g of butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of cold water
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- 100 g of dark chocolate chips
- 100 g of chopped nuts
Method
- Mix the oatmeal, golden syrup, baking soda, and vanilla in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, melt the butter with the golden syrup and cold water.
- Add the egg and mix well.
- Combine the butter mixture with the dry ingredients, mixing gently.
- Add the dark chocolate chips and chopped nuts, mixing finely.
- Form balls with the dough and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Allow to cool before breaking into pieces.
The story
Anzac biscuits were created during World War I to provide a nutritious breakfast for Australian and New Zealand troops. The recipe, rich in oatmeal and golden syrup, was well-suited to the limited resources of the time.
