The Swedish Fish Cake, or Sillakaka, is a traditional Swedish dish, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, often served for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of leftover fish fillet
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • oil for frying

Method

  1. Cut the fish fillet into small pieces and put them in a bowl.
  2. Add the egg, soy sauce, lemon juice, chopped onion, black pepper, and salt, mix well.
  3. In another bowl, put the flour and sift it.
  4. Dip the fish in the batter, making sure it is fully coated.
  5. Fry in a pan with hot oil, cooking for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden.
  6. Drain on a paper towel and serve hot.
  7. They are crispy and delicious with a side sauce.

The story

The Sillakaka has a history dating back to the 19th century, when it was popular among fishermen and farmers due to its simplicity and few required ingredients.
