Chicago-style Deep-Dish Pizza

Ingredients
- 250 g of hard wheat flour
- 100 g of butter
- 100 ml of warm milk
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon of salt
- 100 g of mozzarella cheese
- 100 g of provolone cheese
- 100 g of cooked ham
- 100 g of mushrooms
- 100 g of canned tomatoes
- 100 g of olive oil
Method
- Mix the yeast with the butter and warm milk for 5 minutes.
- Add the flour, salt, and sugar and mix until a dough forms.
- Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Prepare the tomato sauce and mix with the mushrooms and canned tomatoes.
- Spread the dough on the baking dish and add the cheeses, cooked ham, and sauce.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the olive oil.
- Bake in the oven at 200°C for 20-25 minutes.
The story
Chicago-style deep-dish pizza originated in the 1940s in a small Chicago restaurant, with the idea of making the pizza richer and more substantial.
